There is no real way for anyone including a doctor in here being able to tell you what your prescription equals out to in terms of 20/20. My best guess would be around 20/40 or 20/50. If you know what line you first weren't able to see properly above the 20/20 line that would be a big help. Again most likely the letters started getting blurry to you around the 20/40 line. I can tell you that your glasses are going to be a nice benefit to you. I don't think you will need to wear them all the time but your going to be needing them more than you think. If your already driving you need to wear your glasses from now on anytime your driving. You don't need your glasses when your doing a lot of close work such as studying or reading a book. Your close vision is fine, it's just your distance that needs some help.

There is no direct conversion because Visual Acuity (the 20/20 thing) is a measure of blur a person sees. With the prescription you gave I would guess about 20/40. Best to ask for it when you get an eye exam.

Google Visual Acuity to learn more and find some online tests - mainly for fun.

Read an eye chart.
Your vision without glasses on is not important.
