Never, only time I will answer if it's constantly calling, like call.. call ended..calling again.
Otherwise, I will wait for a voicemail to see how important it is.

I don't even answer numbers which show up but isn't stored, if they want to get a message across they'll leave a voicemail or text message. I'll google the number and see who's calling, if it's a number I'm not interested in, like cold callers etc, I will bar the number.
Otherwise I'll just never call back.

NEVER answer "Unknown" local and/or long distance calls; there's a high likelihood they're scammers, looking for "marks" ( potential victims--usually the unsuspecting elderly ). And NEVER EVER call back such calls---as the ACTUAL LOCATION of the call MIGHT be OVERSEAS, instead of within the U.S.

Advice to fight back these scumbags and protect yourself and family from them:

1) Record a generic call greeting on your voicemail service---and let THAT handle "Unknown" calls. If the call is legit, they'll leave a call back message; if they are silent and hang up---they're SCAMMERS, best avoided.

2) Normally, these calls ARE sourced from overseas locations---so the U.S. based DO NOT CALL REGISTRY simply doesn't work---and with most of these calls using Internet Vo / Ip technology, these calls are next to impossible to trace.

Yeah, usually because I am curious as to who is calling me. It's not like they are going to do anything or come find me if I just answer a simple unknown call. If I had a landline however, I probably wouldn't due to so many telemarketers.

Poll Do you answer "UNKNOWN" callers ?

Only if i am in a Combative mood Hoping to get one of those scammers with Obvious accents telling me they are from Microsoft and my computer is infected .

First i ask them if they are a Theist then I ask what religion then if Christian i ask them what their god would think of their behavior do a real guilt trip ,on them

if that doesn't work i ask them what they are wearing and what planet they are from LOL

i got one really good one day she asked if i was in front of my computer I said YES But I am BLIND and they left me all alone at home she said OH i am so sorry and hung up LOL

Nope. Unless if I'm expecting a call from an unknown number, then I do. But otherwise, if I see a number I don't recognize and I'm not expecting, then I don't answer. If it's important, then they can leave me a voice message and I'll call them back.

Never. I do not answer the phone unless I am expecting a call.
The TAD gets first crack at all calls. 98 out of 100 are hang ups.
If anybody does talk, should it sound interesting I might pickup.
Also, my TAD has a 4 digit code, I can give out, that the caller can enter that will cause an "Alert" tone to sound if they are important to me.

TAD = Telephone Answering Device.

Ten years ago I had a computer that would "sort" calls. All telephone calls went into the computers telephone/FAX card, IF the caller did not enter a correct code the call would never make it to my house phone, it would disconnect with a message.

lol of course! unless I can somehow make every single phone number on planet earth my contact.
"Unknown" just means you don't have that number in your contacts. It might be the bank, or the police, or whoever. You HAVE to answer your phone. And if they're scammers (like other people said), I'll just hang up. Done.

My mums phone is stuck on 'unknown' and nobody can figure out how to change it (not even professionals and stuff). So yes, I do. Only because it might be my mum.
My home phone also shows up as unknown so I answer it for that reason as well.
