How old do you have to be to adopt a dog?

So I'm its almost my moms birthday and shes been talking about getting a new puppy. I have a dog already and hes 6 years old he is really good with other dogs! The thing is I'm only 18 and I know shelters would think twice before letting me take a dog home. we do have our own house with lots of space and i live in NY. My friends were telling me to just buy a dog from someone but i feel like that would be a little pricey and i wouldnt know the health of the dog.

Over 18. No shelter or rescue can or will adopt to someone under 20.

If your mom wants a dog she will get a dog. She clearly doesn't want one since she hasn't gotten one get.

Let your mom pick out her own dog. You can buy her some supplies and offer to chip in on the dog.

You can offer to help pay for the dog. Make up a card, put in a coupon (you made) saying it's good for one visit to the local shelter with you, to pick out a dog she wants. Make it a 'do something together' day.

im not sure about the age you need to be, but i m guessing its probably 18. even so, you should explain to them that its for your mom and tell them how you have a lot of land, etc. and im sure they wouldnt think twice

You probably don't need to be older than 18. I'd recommend visiting a local shelter, since each shelter has their own policies
