Explain the need for transport systems in a multicellular organism?

Every cell must have a nice friendly environment.
We're too thick for diffusion from the external environment work for that.
So, we have transport systems to bring nutrients and oxygen close enough to the cells for diffusion to work... and also to carry away metabolic wastes such as ammonia and carbon dioxide.
