When water freezes it forms a crystalline structure which occupies more volume than the liquid water. More volume for the same mass means lower density. Ice is about 9% less dense than water, This means it can displace its own weight by submerging 10/11ths of its volume, leaving 1/11th of its volume above the water

Ice is less dense than water, therefore it floats.

Water expands 10% when it freezes. So a cubic foot of water becomes 1.1ctf---but still weighs the same as a 1 cft of water.-----Since an object in the water is buoyed up, with the weight of the water it displaces, the ice will stop sinking when it displaces 1 cft-----so the extra 10% of the ice will not sink below the water.

float or sink depends on the density of an object. if density of the object is more than liquid then it will sink, otherwise floats

Water is one of the few substances where it is less dense as a solid than as a liquid. The reason is due to the bond angles between the Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms in the molecules.

That's where ice comes from. Water evaporates from oceans, then the rain falls in cold places, the water freezes, and it slides downhill to the ocean where it came from.

One wonders what you were trying to ask.

Ice have more density as compare to water because it trap many air particle in it when it freeze. That is the reason why we will not see clearly throw ice.

Water expands when it freezes. Ice floats because it's less dense than water.

For an object to float when placed in water, its density must be less than the density of water. The density of ice is 0.9 g/ml. The density of water is 1 g/ml. When an ice cube is placed in water, 90% of the volume of ice cube will be under the surface of the water.

For an object to float, the buoyant force must be equal to the weight of the object.

Buoyant force = Density of water * g * Volume of displaced water
Weight = Density of object * g * Volume of object

Buoyant force = 1000 * 9.8 * Volume of displaced water = 9800 * Volume of displaced water
Weight = 900 * 9.8 * Volume of object = 8820 * Volume of object
Let’s set the weight equal to the buoyant force.

8820 * Volume of object = 9800 * Volume of displaced water
Volume of object ÷ Volume of displaced water = 8820 ÷ 9800 = 0.9
This is one way to prove that 90% of the volume of ice cube will be under the surface of the water.

If it DIDN'T there would be NO LIFE. Water is a WEIRD substance....HYDROGEN LIKES TO MAKE WATER really STICKY...and it EXPANDS when it transitions from liquid to solid...and it makes it less dense.
