想問二個英文問題,是由某補習班TOEIC教材出的,題目不難,但我居然沒寫對。?

1.Christina likes to take long walkings after dinner. walkings 對嗎?我查字典,這就是名詞,如不對,要改成什麼?
"walking" and "walk"都可以當名詞用.可是意義不一樣.
"walking"是散步的這一種行為.所以應該是"不可數的:
"walk"是"散一次步".所以應該是可數的.用來說明"時常"會去"散步".

examples:
a) walking is good for your health.
b) many women enjoy long walks on the beach with their love ones.

所以你的問題的答案是: "long walkings" is wrong. It should have been written as "long walks"

2.Ms. Nguyen received an important (mail/message)this morning. 為何不選mail?
mail 在"古典/標準"的用法裡,是指"郵差運送的那些東東".是不可數的.它就像furniture一樣.很難用其他文化來聊解.
所以你不行用
"a mail"
而只能用:
"a piece of mail"

but, but, but, wait and ignore what I said above.

你有看到我說的＂古典／標準＂？
現代英語裡　早就通用　＂a mail＂, "an email", "two emails"．
只有噁心老頭考官心態的人　才會去說:

你不行用
"a mail"
而只能用:
"a piece of mail"

另如何翻譯,on the floor是在地上嗎?

拒絕回答．說２題，卻問了第３題．是騙人的人嗎？你再開一題才行．

還有，ＳＣ大大說的是錯誤的．你可別亂聽喔！

Ｑ３那粒夏天的石頭說的沒錯．＂floor＂的確是＂工作／開會／服務的現場＂的意思．可是並不一定要是可以＂提供病人諮詢＂的現場．通常＂floor ＂會使用在與＂office＂，＂lab＂對比的狀況下．

例子：The machine on the floor has been broken for 2 days. But the one in the lab is fine.

"floor" 還時常用在＂會場＂．我們開會的時候，主席最少會說５０次：

例子：Now, the gentlelady from Arizona has the floor for 5 minutes. 這裡的＂floor ＂就是＂會場／主席台／控制權＂的意思．

回到原句：＂The pharmacist on the floor．．．＂的確應該翻成＂值班藥師＂．

這些題目考「純英語」說法，對英語為母語或英語流利的人不難，但對外語學習者算是很難的。

走走路、散散步的英語是 take a walk，這個 walk 是指「一趟路」，可數，所以一個人經常散步或一天走好幾趟，可用複數形 take walks。 但 walking 是指「走路」的動作，例如：「走路對你有好處」 Walking is good for you.。我們不能說「一走路」、「二走路」，所以 walking 和 smoking (吸菸)、swimming (游泳) 一樣不可數，不能用複數形 walkings。

2. Ms. Nguyen received an important message this morning.

英語 mail 指的是我們收到的「郵件」，包括信和包裹。信和包裹都可數，一封信、一個包裹，但「郵件」是「整體」的，不可數，所以不可說 a mail。

上面回答者有說什麼 a mail 也對。這是錯的！！！ 世界上有沒有人說 a mail? 當然有！但 google 一下，世界上也有人說 take long walkings 啊！有少數人說不代表是多數人所接受的！ 至於把 e-mail 和 mail 相提並論，也是錯把馮京當馬涼，這兩字是不一樣的， e-mail 可以指用 e-mail 這種方法（不可數） 傳過來的 message （可數），所以 e-mail 有可數與不可數的用法，意思不同。

3.The pharmacist on the floor filled the prescription that the doctor had given the patient.
藥局前台（或在分科病房值班）的藥劑師將醫生先前開給病人的處方配給病人。

英語根據醫生處方配藥稱為 fill the prescription，所以答案是很清楚的。

pharmacist on the floor 意思是「值班可以讓病人諮詢的藥劑師」。藥劑師一般關在配藥室配藥，但這裡 on the floor 是指「可以與人討論的」藥劑師，例如藥局櫃檯值班的藥劑師，或是駐點在醫院各科樓層的藥劑師。

前人答1和2都很好，各有各的對，可見英語理解並不如問題或課本題目那麼單一和必然的。

1. 你不講我也不知walking是noun.解作散步。可能是古舊的英語詞彙。

take walks/talk a walk是英語世界的慣用詞，意思是散步，即可指閒逛或者是輕鬆的步行。這句意思是飯後散步是她的"習慣"，所以加s是表達這意思。

Walking作為名詞一般用於分詞/動名詞，例如walking straight是指走直線，walk(ing) the straight and narrow則是指守法循規。


2. received an important mail/letter/message/phone call/news...都沒錯的，只是表達不同的意思，我會說這是出題的人的問題，特意把兩種意思相近亦都可以是對的答案放入，只是聚焦在"對"的答案，而忘記考慮，錯的答案在某些情況(可能是非正式英語寫作/口語/對話)也可以的。an important mail在美國的英語應該是可以的，上文說an important piece of mail亦是對的，英語文法要求高的便只接受正規規格才算"正確"。

3. on the floor意思是「當值的」...葯劑師。不是指他趟在地上。按這用詞亦是較為"古舊"的"傳統英國英語"用詞。從以推測亦留意這教材的背景，答案便要注意應該較為傳統和規格性的。

為何不選mail?

☆ 常理解釋: "一個非常重要的留言"通常是Nguyen小姐剛回到公司收到的, 秘書不會報告“私人的mail”。選擇“mail"沒有錯, 只是邏輯上的問題。

3.The pharmacist on the floor filled the prescription that the doctor had given the patient.
樓層的藥劑師給病人開了醫生的藥方/處方。

另如何翻譯,on the floor是在地上嗎?

long walkings --> 不存在
(i) 要補留 the word "walking" ，應改為 long-distance walking = 長距離的散步
(ii) 其實用 long walks/a long walk 會較好 -- 既簡單, 又較合用。

(晚飯後, Christina 喜歡作長距離的散步。)

2) 郵件(mail) , 就算是本地的, 都要一、兩天才收到；
但 信息 (message) 一經送出,就即時收到。

既然是 重要 (important) , 應該以 "message" 形式發出,
∴ Although both "important mail" & "important message" -- gramatically correct,
" important message " 會是一個「較合理」的選擇！

Ans: Ms. Nguyen received an important (message) this morning.

3) on the floor = on the floor " level " (在地面樓層)
[the word " level " is hidden/understood]

Ans: The pharmacist on the floor (filled) the prescription that the doctor had given the patient. 在地面樓層的藥劑師按醫生的處方給病人(配藥)。
