What is wrong with buying an Xbox One online?

I'm seeing really good Xbox one deals online such as Ebay and they are new for under $300. All my friends are saying don't get an Xbox one online so my question is "why not?"

There are a few reasons.

1). It may not work

If you buy a brand new console, that is a different story. But if you buy a used console, you are not guaranteed it to work. Something could be wrong with it. Plus, you have no idea how the owner treated it. It may work when you first get it, but after a few months of playing it could burn out and no longer work. Some times you can buy warranties for them at least.

2). Bugs

Okay. This sounds odd, but it has happened. I have seen it before. People buy used consoles from people online and when they get it, bugs crawl out. Its disgusting.

3). Scams

There are people who will scam you. If you find an incredibly good deal, I would be a little worried. Unless the seller is a top rated seller who is trusted, but if they haven't sold much I would be a bit worried. It might not happen, but it could. It happened to my mom, but eBay refunded her money back at least so if you do ever get scammed online you may or may not be able to get your money back. I heard a story of a guy who thought he bought a great Xbox One deal but he just got a picture of an Xbox in the mail.

4). Hard to return

If something is wrong and you need to return it, you have to pay shipping. Its just a hassle. If you buy from a trusted retailer like Walmart, you should be able to just take it to their store if you have one close. If you buy it from a regular person, then you can't. You have to ship it and it costs a lot to ship something that heavy.

I don't think its a terrible idea to buy online, but you do need to be careful. I shop on eBay a lot and I haven't had much issues with sellers and with the things I buy. An Xbox One for $300 could be genuine beings Xbox prices are decreasing. Before you buy, look into the seller.

Buying a new XB1 - no problem.

Buy a used XB1 - too risky. You can't confirm the console is working before you buy it and you can only go by trust that the other guy won't simply ship you an empty box with a brick in it. Even buying used from a store, like Gamestop, is risky as you don't get a full warranty.

Honestly, no idea. I got my One through Best Buy during the Holiday season. No complaints.

Though I do question "new" Xbox Ones selling for under $300 when they are at least $349 brand new.

If you buy a pre-owned system, you get it without warranty. So if something does go wrong with it, you're spending another $150 - $200 for Microsoft to even look at it, regardless of what's wrong.

So unless you get it for at least that much off the retail price, it's not worth getting pre-owned. Buy new.

It's really easy for someone to steal your credit card information online, and use it for themselves. Maybe you should find one at a thrift store or possibly get another card with just enough money on it to pay for the Xbox then cancel it as soon as you have purchased the Xbox.
