How do you know the bible tells the truth? I'm somewhere in the middle of believing and not believing, and I have this question.?

After the crucifixion of Christ, the Holy Ghost (or Holy Spirit, same entity) was given to us to testify of truth. When seeking after God and reading His holy works, we can receive of testimony of the truthfulness of such, courtesy of the Holy Ghost. The scriptures state that a testimony of Jesus Christ is given to those who do the will of the Father. So start there and seek to earn a testimony for yourself of the truthfulness of such things.

How do you know that any book you read (dictionary) is telling the truth?

A study of God's word the Bible has convinced me that it is the truth. Here is a sample of some of the evidence that convinces me of its trustworthiness and divine inspiration:

1) Thousands of years ago the Bible recorded that the earth is round and is suspended on nothing. This was at a time when people believed it rested on the back of an elephant or that it was flat. Only inspiration by God could be responsible for the writer knowing the earth is round and not resting on anything. (Job 26:7; Isa 40:22)

2) All the prophecies recorded in the Bible, of which there are many, have been unerringly fulfilled or are in the course of fulfillment. Centuries before Jesus came to earth the Bible prophesied where he would be born, what he would do, how and why he would be killed, and many other things about him. 3) The Bible is filled with trustworthy counsel for everyday living. I have experienced the trustworthiness of applying it. It always works.

Mostly all people doubt the Holy Word of God, The Bible.
But This little History lesson will enlighten all.

It starts with the Hittites. And a lack of evidence they ever existed. Then in 1908 a Archaeological discovery was made by John Garstang. The 400 year civilization of the Hittites Empire (1600-1200 BC). Since then so much has been discovered about the Hittite Empire, you can study all you want about them.

And it’s not just The Hittite evidence. All kinds off engraved stones or cylinders from other ancient civilizations verify other Biblical accounts. The Taylor Prism confirms the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem that the Bible describes in 2 Kings 19-19, 2 Chronicles 32, and Isaiah 36-37.

The discovery of the Tel Dan Stele confirms the existence of Israel’s King David. The Cyrus Cylinder records Cyrus of Persia’s decree that allowed Babylonian captives to return to their homes and resume their religious practices. The Moabite Stone proves the events of 2 Kings 3. This stone not only chronicles the rebellion led by Mesha King of Moab but even mentions the name Yahweh.

Jewish and Roman historians referred to the life and works of Jesus. Josephus wrote about Jesus’ miracles. And Pliny the Younger, an ancient ruler, recorded that Christians in his province maintained their belief in and the worship of Jesus even when faced with death. We have evidence that the Gospels were written by apostles or at least in cooperation with them. Irenaeus, a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of the apostle John, Writes: as far as someone inserting into the Bible what they felt like. The Dead Sea Scrolls put that idea to rest. The earliest copies of the New Testament date back to 114 AD.

May I suggest that you investigate a book called "Cold Case Christianity" written by a cold case homicide detective that was an atheist when he began investigating the New Testament using the same forensic methods he applied to cold cases.

I also became a Christian in my 30's by investigating the question of God and the Bible myself.
Obviously I found that God is a most reasonable basis of existence and the attributes we see all around us; including person-hood and rationality itself.
The next question is the veracity of the Bible and the accounts it contains. In every materialy checkable way the Bible properly reflects history, especially in the New Testament. Define 'truth'

What makes bible any more true than Quran?
Nothing. There are so many so called "holy" books. None of them are any more superior than the other one, and they all contradict each other in some ways. The bible is not a special book. Stop thinking it's inspired by God. It's written by men, and inspired by men to control masses.

i believed it without questioning. for me the real question, which church is the true one. i joined the mormon church

because if people read the Bible properly and stopped harping on about Jesus they would see it is Gods' diary which tells of God being on earth constantly. Christians go on and on about Jesus forgetting God said Not everyone that says Lord Lord will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

I don't believe the bible has much truth in it at all. Sure there are a few parts that we can confirm as truth but those parts are few and far between and don't justify the rest of the book being accepted. For example it begins with the myth of genesis and claims that an all powerful deity spoke the universe into existence in 6 days. Now among this creation were many animals paired with a partner so that they could reproduce except the first man who had to wait for his partner to be created. kinda shortsighted for an all knowing deity in my opinion. Then this couple eats a forbidden fruit because they were conned by a evil snake that this god created in the garden with them knowing that they didn't know right from wrong yet. Then they have 3 sons but one kills the other making the entire population of the planet 3 males and 1 female. So who did their sons reproduce with? The myth of Adam and Eve is clearly false and could not be anything more than a story meant to teach a lesson. This is a huge problem for Christianity though because Jesus was supposedly sacrificed to pay for their "original sin" of eating the fruit and the entire religion crumbles with this one simple conclusion. The bible contains a lot of truth, and a lot that isn't true, or at least is fictional (i.e., stories).
