How can I be better at guitar?

I've been playing guitar for a while (about 3 years) and I do enjoy it but I feel like I never progress. I feel like my teacher makes me play at the same level when it comes how advanced the songs we play are. I want to be able to SHRED not play the rhythm part of a Green Day song or something. It's really frustrating, it'd be like if in a video game the levels or missions didn't get any harder, they were all as easy as the last. If I wanted to play like anyone, it would be something like Elvis Kuehn from FIDLAR, not too advanced, but at least a little bit more challenging than the chords to Wonderwall. What techniques do you think I should practice to play like an actually skilled guitarist? I want to be able to solo, create cool riffs and generally be a talented musician. I know being an artist isn't for anyone but I'm definitely the creative type so I think I can be one.

Practice on your own time. Go to sites like Jelly Note and practice the type/difficulty of music you like the best. If you don't have a guitar, then you could rent one or buy one for ~160 dollars.

Best way for you to learn is to join a band and try to keep up / learn new things. Also allow yourself to explore music and teach yourself.
I am self taught and after a year i'm still learning new things because I don't confine myself to structure set by someone else. You learn with creativity, you learn with trial and error, and lastly, you learn when you're enjoying yourself.
At this point I can cover all the bands I like, but I can also write my own music because I learned through intuition not logic.

Get some of the "Lick Library " DVDs (or video lessons) for some bands you like or the type of music you want to play.
They take you through songs a note at a time, showing the exact fingering & techniques.
It's up to you to keep practicing pieces and get your playing speed up to what it needs to be.
