For the following reaction, 3.03 grams of iron(II) chloride are mixed with excess silver nitrate. The reaction yields 3.20 grams of iron(II) nitrate. FeCl2 (aq) + 2AgNO3 (aq) Fe(NO3)2 (aq) + 2AgCl (s) (1) What is the theoretical yield of iron(II) nitrate? (2) What is the percent yield for this reaction?

(1)
Molar mass of FeCl₂ = 55.85 + 35.45×2 = 126.75 g/mol
Molar mass of Fe(NO₃)₂ = 55.85 + 14.01×2 + 16.00×6 = 179.87 g/mol

FeCl₂(aq) + 2AgNO₃(aq) → Fe(NO₃)₂(aq) + 2AgCl (s)
1 mole of FeCl₂ gives 1 mole of Fe(NO₃)₂.

No. of moles of FeCl₂ = 3.03/126.75 = 0.0239 mol
Theoretically, no. of moles of Fe(NO₃)₂ formed = 0.0239 mol
Theoretical yield of Fe(NO₃)₂ = 179.87 × 0.0239 = 4.30 g

(2)
Percent yield = (3.20/4.30) × 100% = 74.4%
