HR Is Requesting I Sign Forms Before Placing in My Resignation???

I had my month old baby on 1/8/2016 and currently am on maternity leave, i had C section so am under the impression my leave ends sometime next week. Been on leave for about 7 weeks so have next week left and go back March 4th 2016.

Ive sent out a resignation to my HR via email and told her that me and my husband had been some talking and feel its best i continue on staying home to care for my kids i also have a daughter who will be starting kindergarten soon so want to focus on her as well as my NB baby.

Ive informed my HR i felt it was best i emailed her than phone call because i wanted her to have paper proof of me placing in my Resignation. HR replied to me back and said thats fine, she is requesting i meet with her to sign some paperwork and return her my badge.

If it matters the job is a contractor type of job.

Ive informed a close friend of mine about this and she said something sounds fishy, and is advicing me not to file any paperwork from her because she can just be having me sign some other documents such as some forms to cover their butts from, and said technically California state doesnt say we have to file any forms and the HR should do it herself.

Husband said if its that big of a deal request HR to email me forms and say i cant meet with her to fill forms out and have a co worker hand my badge to HR.

Just looking for some advice and see what the best thing may be to do in this situation.

this is very normal when you resign. California does not require forms to be signed and filed, but your soon to be ex company does. the best thing to do is go see them, read carefully whatever they want you to sign, request copies of anything you sign and be on your way.

Your close friend is an idiot. It's the company's way of wrapping things up and is perfectly legal. Don't do it and you'll be called a no show when a new employer wants a reference. Bureaucratic red tape.

This is normal and no problem. Typically it's stupid things like "returned 3 uniforms." You'll probably agree to erase any company software from your hard drives (even if haven't worked with any software at home).

Since you've had a baby, there might also be something about rights. It would simply say what rights you might have if you feel like you're being pressured to leave your job.

You don't HAVE to sign anything. After all, they can't force you to work. But I've never heard of any company trying to sneak things in. I think your fine.
