How much can u get for a demand for identity theft ?

So i was at the hospital 4 years ago and spent 40k on a surgery(i spent all my money on it) now i received a letter of the hospital saying that my personal information(such as ssn number among others) had been compromised. Can i sue them ? How much money do u think that a demand of this type could get me ?

You can likely sue if something happens and you are damaged by it, but they generally pay for identity theft protection after something like this.. Like an insurance policy.
