Because that's how a society works. If you don't want to be a part of it, get out
You are not obligated to care about anything. In today's society, you are free to choose what you want to do including why you do it. You do benefit from many aspects of society simply by existing--plentiful food, water, sewer, electricity, roads, education, police and firefighting, etc. The is no job that you can work where your only efforts are to support only yourself. So, welcome to society regardless of whether you like it or not.
It's hard to take rhetoric seriously.
You should care about the greater good because doing so has a greater beneficial impact than only taking care of your own interests. I understand you only care about yourself. I don't think anyone's questioning your position on that.
In the long run the greater good benefits everybody, including yourself. It's better to strive for it than to be selfish.
Selfish people are generally distrusted by others when their true character is detected,as it always is.
As the poet John Donne said, "No man is an island." Normal people like social interaction for all kinds of reasons. It's one thing to isolate yourself in a paranoid cynical state, but it's another thing entirely to harm people just because you don't believe in the greater good. That is sociopathic.
Well, there's no arguing with a sociopath, so please yourself. We can't all be right.
Because the greater good affects you too
and for the greater good i wish ppl like you were wiped off the face of the earth
