Meeting people at community college?

Im in community college right now but i cant seem to meet new people. Yeah iv met a few people and ill hang with them but i need more of a vority of people to hang with. Since high school ended all my friends went to jail or got into drugs or alcohol. I do have a small group of friends but in highschool i was the guy who had friends and a girlfriend at all times, i wasnt popular iv always been pretty quiet. highschool made it easy to meet people. Now i have a small group of friends and no girls im interested in. I started hanging out at the college doing homework but its wierd cuz im always alone. I really just want to go up to someone and talk to them but i really dont want to bother them. There is a cool place outside to hangout where a lot of loners hang out. But iv never really made a friend outside of work or in the classroom or through a mutual friend. How can i just go up to someone without bothering them and just talk to them without being wierd. i am a guy btw, and i really want to just talk to the girls. Im pretty normal i just lost a lot of my friends.
