Consider the decomposition of dinitrogen pentoxide shown above. In order to determine the rate of this reaction, we can measure the concentration of N2O5 at various time intervals throughout the reaction. The data and graph of [N2O5] verses time are shown below.
(A) What is the average rate of reaction for N2O5 in the first 800 seconds? NOTE: The sign is important!
(B) What is the average rate of the reaction for N2O5 between 600 and 1200 seconds?

(A)
Average rate of reaction for N₂O₅ in the first 800 seconds
= (0.61 - 1.00 M) / (800 s)
= -4.9 × 10⁻⁴ M/s

(B)
Average rate of the reaction for N₂O₅ between 600 and 1200 seconds
= (0.48 - 0.61 M) / (1200 - 800 s)
= -3.3 × 10⁻⁴ M/s
