The first step towards getting somewhere is to decided that you are not going to stay where you are.

The first step towards somewhere is to decide that you are not staying where you are

towards getting somewhere=to somewhere; You eliminate the participial phrase, and treats as an infinitive phrase.
going to stay=staying; You use infinitive phrase as a gerund.

你抄錯了"to decided"原文是to decide.

The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are. - John Pierpont Morgan

你嘗試修改的部份 you are not going to stay where you are中"are not going to"=假設性語法講"will not stay",是假設未來或將來要/會做的事。假如你把這段改為you are not staying where you are.
