Let y meters be the length of each side of the square.
Area of the square = y² square meters

Length of the rectangle = (y + 3) meters
Width of the rectangle = (y - 2) meters
Area of the rectangle = (y + 3)(y - 2) square meters

Area of the rectangle = Area of the square
(y + 3)(y - 2) = y²
y² + y - 6 = y²
y - 6 = 0
y = 6

Length of each side of the square = 6 meters
