Carborundum (SiC) is a hard substance made by combining silicon dioxide with carbon (C) as follows:
SiO2(s) + 3 C(s) −→ SiC(s) + 2 CO(g) .
What mass of SiC is formed from the com- plete reaction of 6.98 mol of carbon?
Answer in units of g.

SiO₂(s) + 3 C(s) → SiC(s) + 2 CO(g)
Mole ratio C : SiC = 3 : 1

No. of moles of C = 6.98 mol
No. of moles of SiC formed = 6.98 × (1/3) = 6.98/3 mol

Molar mass of SiC = 28.1 + 12 = 40.1 g/mol

Mass of SiC formed = (6.98/3) × 40.1 = 93.3 g
