I want to start blogging, But i hear that you can place ads on blogs and use your blog for ways of to build some sort of income?

My brother is 19 and suggest Tumblr i have no idea what Tumblr is, I am 27 years old if that matters.

What's your Plan B?
It takes years of blogging to build up enough a following to making any money. Anyone making money now probably started 10-15 years ago.
Someone I know started a cooking blog five years ago. She has a few thousand legitimate followers. However, has yet to make any money.

Any platform you own, you can put ads on - when you go through free things like Tumblr, they'll monetize your content first, not you. That's how they pay the bills - you can't add Google Adwords to it, if anyone would, they would and pocket the revenue to cover hosting your stuff.
If you create your own blog on your own domain and server space you can set that up to serve up Google Adwords. Whether you make any money depends on your ability to attract traffic though. 95% of the blogs out there get 5% of the traffic, and vice versa. Most people do not attract any audience, and therefore wouldn't pay anything of relevance.
Think therefore about your audience and how to create quality, sharable content for them. If you have no idea how to do that, your blog will be pretty pointless and it's better to forget this as an idea.
