Even if religion is an illusion, could it be still a necessary illusion for people who have a weak nature?

Jesus was no illusion, and He gave strength to the weak, including the mentally and the physically weak. He had compassion for those who were knocked about, bruised by life, and lost. He drew them to Himself, in love, and they were lifted up.

The risen Christ continues to do this and the transformation He makes in their lives is no illusion. Of course religion can be an illusion, but it's not religion that helps people; religion is simply what people who believe in God do, based on their understanding of their deity. You have to have God first, before you can have any worthwhile religion! Sadly, millions of people have religion without having God. That is empty, vacuous illusion, I agree. Religion is not what people need. They need the living God breathing new life into them! Then they arise with wings as of eagles; then they run and do not grow faint; then they walk and do not get weary for the Spirit of God indwells them.

Pity help those who just mock the very idea, proudly going through life imagining they are strong. Jesus is not for them. He is for those who know they are weak and turn to the source of all strength, in humility.

I don't get it: Why doesn't your obviously and comparatively "strong nature" provide you this wisdom? You need mine?

I'm Christian.

@ torpex2002: Unconvinced. Any with wisdom know nothing is apparent.

So I'll have to pass you by today. Cheers.

People who believe don't necessarily have a weak nature. Science has proven that we are hard wired to want to believe in something bigger or more powerful than ourselves. When you were a child, you believed your parents would love and protect you. They were bigger than you at the time. Same thing with belief in a supernatural power.

Religion is not illusion my friends but religion is a knowledge that can teach us to be a better person. In this life and the afterlife. No religion means no morality and when there is no morality its mean there is no humanity. :)

Actually, it takes a far weaker nature for a person to be an unbeliever, such as those who are atheist, for example. One who relies on only themselves for their entire foundation of knowledge (which is finite to begin with), their protection, their provision, their comfort, their healing and general well being is far weaker than those who are believers.

Those who DO believe in God have a far greater advantage during their lifetime. God provides for all His children, protects us, comforts us, heals us and maintains our daily well being when we place Him first in our lives. The unbelievers honestly do not know what they are missing.

Yes. That is so. Religion is the opiate of the people.

Any evidence for religion being an illusion? Any evidence for faithful people being weak in nature? Do you even know what you are saying?
You are probably the one under the illusion of self righteous belief.

Usual atheist nonsense. Have you realized just how stupid you are for thinking that you are a freak of nature?

Not strictly necessary, but very enticing.

not necessary

but certainly used as such

All thoughts are sourced in either God or Satan. One truth (from God) can have a myriad of lies (from Satan).

As children must grow up to be independent, people must learn to become self sufficient.
There is just no justifying dependency on a crutch that one does not need.

It appeals to the weak minded but is truly not necessary.

We have all spiritual needs, but many do not realize it...

"Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them" (Matthew 5:3. Bible).

Even if material existence is an illusion, it is still a necessary step in spiritual learning...
