Im a new parent to a month year old, i am breastfeeding I just pumped about 2 hours ago and got an emergency call that i have to be out and about. i just arranged babysitter during that time and placed breastmilk in Fridge.

My question is how long can we keep milk in fridge? and how long will it be good until? i am heading out to babysitter at 7am i pumped at 2am its currenttly 4am will the breast milk be good until i drop my child to sitters or no? trying to pump a quick new batch before i head out before i head out.

appreciate the responses

The standard mnemonic is 'the rule of 5's. 5 hours at room temperature, 5 days in the fridge, 5 months in the freezer. (And that's pretty conservative. It's likely safe a good deal longer.)

My maternity nurse told me 4 days, and I've read that somewhere too. And yes, probably longer, those numbers are erring on the side of caution. Point is, you definitely don't have to worry about your milk going bad in the fridge in the few hours between pumping and dropping off your child at the sitter. Breast milk even lasts hours when NOT refrigerated.

No idea... always been under the impression..." to be drunk straight from the container".
Peace.
