Does the US government tax the programs/organizations it funds?

Planned Parenthood is currently funded by a government grant under Title X. Is this organization taxed by the government, since it is a clinic/facility? Or is it not, since it is funded by the government? I'm doing a research paper on the organizations/programs the government funds and no one seems to have an answer. Forgive me if my search engine skills prove to be subpar.

(I don't want this to turn into some political debate because of the example I chose, -- I couldn't find a better one -- so please refrain from making it an argument. My stance on this does not matter. Neither does yours. I don't want to hear about how you didn't know Planned Parenthood was still funded; I don't care, and that's not what this is about.)

Thank you in advance for answering!

(That is, if you chose to respect my request and answer without flaunting your political stance. I just want a straightforward answer. Trolling is annoying, and therefore will be reported.)

The U.S. government taxes many of the organizations it funds. Defense contractors, for example.

Although it does not tax Planned Parenthood, this is not for any of the reasons you mentioned. It is only because Planned Parenthood is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and would not be taxed even if the government did not fund it.

Most of the orgs that the govt funds are nonprofit and tax exempt.
Planned Parenthood does not pay taxes.

Planned Parenthood is a non-profit corporation. As such, it's taxed the same way as other non-profit corporations: taxes are paid on any excess of revenues over expenses. As a non-profit, such excess revenues are expected to be small, or non-existent. (Further details are too much for me to go into here.)

The fact that some of Planned Parenthood's revenues come in the form of government grants does not affect their taxation status. It does mean that they have to expect greater scrutiny of their financial records by the funding agencies.

I hope that answers your question.
