The gentleman was too proud to accept your assistance. His reaction was nothing personal, he simply wanted to deal with his condition himself. He was not trying to be rude, but I can understand how it could have been perceived as such. He has a physical condition which he wishes to work through complete on his own, we should respect his wishes.

Yes, you are wrong. When you ask someone if they need help, sometimes you will get a hostile reaction. That's just life. Get over it and don't let it stop you from trying to help the next person.

sometimes when a person is sick or has a disability, and other people offer help, the sick/disabled person gets upset because they see it as you thinking that because they have an issue, that they automatically need help/that they are less capable.. and no one ever wants to feel that way .

He probably is very upset over his shaking condition and may be somewhat in denial that he needs some help. He could be a very independent person and proud to have accomplished what he has done in his lifetime. Needing help is probably foreign to him.

Do not allow this attempted act of kindness to stop you from offering help when you see others in need. Carry on.

There is no right or wrong here, simply two different perspectives and both valid for the individual. While your intention was genuine, you made the assumption this person was perhaps not completely capable of taking care of themselves and so wanted to step in and help. For this man, from his perspective he may have felt you were judging him/disrespecting him by offering to help him, hence why he came across as being defensive and what you interpreted as being rude. In any given situation, ultimately you need to do what feels right for you and if your innate behavior is to offer help, then go for it.

You did good. You are not wrong. Being kind is never wrong.

Don't be so quick to judge. You were trying to be nice and the guy was rude. That doesn't mean the vast majority of people wouldn't appreciate a helping hand. Some older people get very grumpy when they are afraid that they are losing their ability to live independently.

It was NOT wrong of you to offer help; it was very kind of you. That man is self-concious of his situation and he's embarrassed when people him kindness or, maybe, he thinks it's pity. Don't let bad attitudes change your good upbringing and your sense of humanity toward others. Be that person who'll be called an angel by someone in need of your kindness.
