How to contact an old friend for a meeting?

So, I have known this guy for a few years at a friend's house. After that, we did not keep in contact with each other but we are friends on Facebook. We occasionally messaged each other but not any lengthy conversation. Would it be awkward to ask him out for a coffee? How should I ask the question? Please no sex-related stuffs please. I am serious.
