Long term affects of cartilage damage?

A doctor told me I'd broken the cartilage in my knuckle, but didn't say too much, so I was just wondering if there's any long term affects of it? And if so, is surgery recommemed? Thank you :)

Long term effects will or won't show. So, both yes and no. It depends if they happen or not.

Surgery on your hands is used as a last resort only, especially with cartilage. The scar tissue that the surry causes often does as much or more damage than the deformed cartilage. It poses the same or great threat.
