If this is the first time he has cried in his cage at night - did it ever occur to you that maybe the dog NEEDS TO GO OUT and so is trying to tell you that?

Take the dog out, let him attend to his business, and then you can both go back to sleep.

If the dog is sleeping every day day in the crate and all night in the crate - maybe reconsider re-homeing the dog to someone who has the time to supervise and own a dog. It isn't fair to keep the dog locked up for hours because no one can supervise it.

A dog learns nothing during the time it is locked in a crate, the dog learns about and becomes housebroken during the time it is living outside of the crate.

How much time, other than overnight, is he having to spend in a crate. I ask because all this could be as simple as he's had enough of being stuck in a crate. Fact is by around 6 months, apart from overnight when it might be necessary to use a crate still, he should be able to be free of being crated, even if when you leave him alone, it may be necessary to confine him to one room. We crate our two overnight because we rent and even if they are clean indoors, and have been for a loooog time now, I don't want unexpected messes. But for the same reason, renting, we confine them to the kitchen with a baby gate across the doorway so they don't have to be actually shut in there.

Did you let him out to empty when you went to check on him? Could be he has a tummy upset!!! And you do need to go outside with him to see what he does, if anything.

He's too old for the cage. Either train him not to mess up the house or re-home him.

Hmm.... Is this your first puppy? When our dog was little, he did the same thing, so we let him out to pee a ton of times, to let him know whenever he "cries", we'll take him outside, not to play, but to do his buisness. You also should know that when he cries, he's either wanting attention (anxious), or needs to go outside, which will probably come later. Some more training and dedication will help. When we had our puppy, he made us stay up 'till midnight everytime, until he got the hang of it. It's usually just patience.

He may need more attention or simply some training. I always recommend training a puppy as soon as you bring him home. ps, please use spell check as your question is pretty hard to read.

I note you didnt mention anything about the training you did together

or are you just winging it?

proper training results in a better life for you and your furry friend

Entirely your fault for caging the dog in the first place

I'd say the dog is under exercised. How much do you walk him? Your meaning of a lot may not be much for the dog. Have you thought about agility? Poodles excel at agility, and since yours is a poodle mix, I am sure he would enjoy it.
