Why hate someone for their religion?

There is one thing I really don't get:Christ said we would be hated in his name but I dont see how u can actually hate someone just because of their religion..i mean in my life I met a few ignorant ppl who made fun of me for being a christian but that's surely not hate...i have atheist friends who simply dont care...i dont get how u can hate someone for a reason like that as hate requires that this person did something to u personally?

Some love to present themselves as being persecuted because it allows them to feel closer to their gods.

There is no justification for such as this. But hatred is basically dislike of the unlike. It polarizes people into comfortable but opposing groups where there is cohesion and safety

Hating is easier than understanding.

I don't.

I hate people for threatening me with hell everyday, and when I confront them on it they say "It's actually Jesus saying that, not me. Don't shoot the messenger".

I also hate people who accuse me of secretly *knowing* their God is real and actually hating their mythical characters.

I'm a Baha'i, a member of the Baha'i Faith. I don't understand it. We believe we all believe in the same God.

I don't. I realize that people rarely choose their religion. They are taught their religion as children, usually through indoctrination. Sometimes they are able to break the shackles, and sometimes people do actually choose their religion, but not usually. So I usually don't hold their religion against them. In fact, one of my best friends is a devout Christian.

However, I do hate religion itself, especially the religions of Abraham, which are violent, intolerant, irrational and dangerous. Much of the time, adherents are able to rise above these problems, because people are basically innately good. But the core of these religions is still fundamentally evil.

I support freedom of religion as long as religion is forced in the public school classrooms or workforce
