In order to keep warm inside a room with glass windows, is it correct to put a piece of transparent plastic over the entire window frame?

The window frame (usually made of metals like aluminium) forms a thermal bridge through which heat from inside the room is lost to the outside by conduction. Insertion of a sheet of plastic does serve the purpose of reducing conduction heat loss.
