Is it ok to play Ps4 with the faceplate off?

My ps4 fan is loud. Is it okay to play with the cover off to let air in and cool it off

You shouldn't. It can mess with the air flow. The vents are places where they are so that air gets sucked in and pulled over the components that generate heat, and then vented out where the fan is. Removing the covers can mean that air can get brought in from different places and won't move over the components that get hot, making overheating even worse.
