How bad is it getting an F in college, then replacing it with an A?

Last semester lots of things came up that did not let me concentrate. I was dealing with some emotional issues, which led to me failing Pre-Cal. I know it is not the hardest subject, but things come up in life that stall you a bit. However, I'm retaking the class and am confident that I will ace it. But will my chances for applying to MED School or any PA program be shot???
I am kind of concerned for this since the F will still appear somewhere even after I replace it with an A.

It varies by the school, some make you keep both grades. I'd drop if possible.
Its only "ok" if you can get a D- (still credit) and NOT repeat but then Ace another class to raise GPA.

If you retake, only the new grade will count and go in your record.
