Working in Km and hours
distance = speed x time
For hare : s = 12t
For dog :s + 1/10 = 16(t - 1/60)
so : 12t + 1/10 = 16t - 16/60
Mult by 60 : 720t + 6 = 960t - 16
Re-arrange : 240t = 22
t = 22/240
s = 12 * (22/240) km = 1.1 km
so hare travelled 1100 m

(12km / 1 hour)(1 hour / 60 min)(1000 m / 1 km) =

12000 m / 60 min =

200 m / min

the hare is 200 + 100 = 300 meters away by the time the dog notices

the dog travels at 16000 / 60 m per min
800/3

(800/3)x = 300 + 200x
(800/3)x - 200x = 300
(800x - 600x) / 3 = 300
200x = 900
x = 9/2 min

it will take 9/2 minutes to catch the hare once the dog notices

the hare has traveled for 1 minute plus 9/2 min
200(11/2) = 1100 m

or

(9/2)(800/3) - 100
1200 - 100
1100 m

12 kph = 12000m/60min = 200 = 600/3 m/min
16 kph = 16000m/60min = 800/3 m/min

After 1 minute the hare runs 200m and is 300m from the dog.
The dog pursues at a relative speed of 800/3 - 600/3 = 200/3 m/min so it takes the dog a further 300/(200/3) = 9/2 min to catch the hare.
In this time the hare has run a further 200 x 9/2 = 900 m.

So when the dog catches the hare the hare is 900+200 = 1100m from the spot where it started.
