Tanker ships. Pipelines. Tanker Trains. Tanker Trucks.
pipelines, rail cars, and very large tanker ships, mostly. trunks are not generally used because the economies of scale are poor. (unit cost is high and volume is relatively low). Trucks may be used for local transport but not usually for unrefined product-it isn't cost effective.
The most cost-effective and efficient means to transfer product overland in the huge volumes under discussion is by pipeline, but the pipelines have to be built first. there is a large upfront cost but low maintenance and operating costs once they exist.
Crude oil is mainly transported through pipelines.
