New GCSE system in the UK. help pls?

I am currently in Year 9 and taking my GCSEs in 2018. Obviously the whole system has changed recently including the marking system and the demands, but at our school we've been told it's COMPULSORY to take a language. Is this true??? Or is it just my school trying to convert back to the Language School it once was.

I'm asking this because now that it has become 'compulsory' to take a language, we only get to CHOOSE 2 other non-compulsory options and I think that's ridiculous.

All help appreciated, will award 10pts to best answer:)))

In in year 9 to dont worry bout the changes the teachers should speak you through it just aim for GCSE level 4 or above to pass

Phone your Local Education Authority LEA, they will tell you if it is compulsory. I thought it was a guideline.
