The question is when to use could and can.
He said that he already knew could is used for the past tense and can is used for present tense. I told him the same thing but he said he wanna know more ways of using these two words and he also gave me an example : all he could do was crying and or he could do is crying. Which pne is the correct form. Someone helps me

"Could" is mostly used as a conditional form.

Past tense:
All he could do was to cry. (Not "crying".)
He could only cry.

Conditional tense:
I could cry. (The condition is implied but not stated.)

Conditional past tense:
I could have cried.

Could is clearly the past of can. Could was then (in my teens I could run a four minute mile), can is now (I can run a mile in four minutes). But could is often used a hyperbole (I could eat a hundred eggs) or subjunctive (I could love you forever) while can tends toward the factual specific (I can eat eight hot dogs in two minutes). Could also substitutes for Might or May I.

He could use can in present tense as he can if he could.
