Cool water, soaking them, gentle wash....yes stay with them constantly...you may only wish to do
the wash cycle.....that is a plenty...they don't need to rinse.....
Cows do well in rain...so will the leather.....
Towel dry inside and out.....let them air dry for about 3 days or longer inside the house.....
No, you cant put leather boots in washing machine. Instead, buy a leather cleaner.
Actually, if you air dry them, the washing machine shouldn't hurt them. But it might not get them as nice as doing the usual polish, because the polish treats the surface. Also it can take a long time to air dry them. You would want to stuff them with paper or something, to keep their shape while they dry. Just don't stuff them with anything that could impede the evaporation needed for drying, such as plastic or anything. Stuffing them with paper, you might have to let them set several days to dry completely.
Can you? Of course.
But should you? Absolutely not. It will ruin the boots, and it won't do the washing machine any good, either.
Then take a wet rag and paper towels and get off the rest of the dirt. Use an old tooth brush to get in cracks. Let the boots dry and polish them. Also it can take a long time to air dry them. Yes great place to put them if washer is outside. Close lid. I have yet to find a scorpion or snake in a boot stored such overnight.
As has been said, don't put any leather item into a washing machine as will dry out the natural oils.
Best is to clean off any dirt with a brush and leave to dry naturally, when dry apply some shoe/boot polish of the same colour as the boots rub into the material with a soft cloth and buff to a shine.
Or if an unpolished natural look leather, when dry use a very fine wire brush shoe cleaner and vigorously rub in one direction to bring back the nap on the material.
This brings back memories about the leather gloves and O J Simpson. When leather is wet, it hardens and shrinks. Do not put them in the washer unless you're prepared to lose them. Use leather cleaner.
No. The soap and water will leach out the natural oil in the leather. The leather will become stiff and crack.
Take a stiff brush and brush off as much dirt as you can. Then take a wet rag and paper towels and get off the rest of the dirt. Use an old tooth brush to get in cracks. Let the boots dry and polish them.
The detergent and the tumbling will destroy the boots. You should hand wash them using saddle soap and then air dry them on a boot rack.
