Really nervous/don't want to do swim tryouts, please help?

So I want to do water polo and my dad said it would be a good idea to do swim to help with it. I understand that, but i have only been swimming LAPS for 2 weeks prior. It honestly seems boring considering you just swim and swim. I really dont want to do it because I can hardly, if at all, do the requirements. How can I tell my dad I dont want to do it?
