Was David Bowie a muslim, christian or atheist (RIP) ?

In an interview I've seen of him, when asked if he believes in God he said something along the lines of "I believe in something, a higher power, but I wouldn't like to put a name to it". It's not exactly what he said but it was along those lines.

At this point in time, What difference does it make?

I would guess an atheist, it's kind of a thing among rock stars, tho, that does not occur to every rock star

He struck me as an atheist - or maybe a Buddhist or something - or the type that would be into crystals or new age sh*t.

But I've never read anything about any religious beliefs he might have had.
