What type of drug is "dope"?

As an amphetamine and accelerant, meth is one of the least likely drugs to deserve the slang term dope.

Weed and heroin have both historically been known as dope, because they make the user feel, to varying degrees, lethargic. It is more commonly associated these days with weed.

It could be used for any of the above. In fact, these days, it is used as a general adjective for anything that is perceived as good, for example: "that new t-shirt is dope". I think that it is most commonly used for weed though.

Dope is slang for any illegal drug.

Reminds me of a lady taking her son to school the first day. The teacher ask her what is his name. She said Heroin Jones. The teacher said that is a dope. She replied so is his Dad.

Inebriating drugs, such as alcohol, can also be considered to be dope. Intoxication qualifies under the previous statement.

In some circles where users need some self-justification, "dope" is only used to refer to drugs which have a "slowing effect", such as depressants and hallucinogens. Of course, this definition is preferred by the users of stimulants.

Where I live, most people saying dope are referring to heroin. Weed is called weed or pot or Mary Jane. Meth is called meth or hillbilly crack. But when people say someone is using dope, it means heroin
