Have an appointment with the ophthalmologist tomorrow morning and 25 weeks pregnant?

I am seeing the ophthalmologist because since ive been pregnant ive been seeing on and off through the day blue dots ( floaters that are a shade of blue) I told my gyno and he said i should have my eyes looked at in case since its not my blood pressure. I was told when i made the eye appointment that since im pregnant that they usually don't dilate the eyes or at least try not to dilate.

My question is ...why cant pregnant women have their eyes dilated and what are the risks. and is there any other risks about having your eyes checked by the ophthalmologist while pregnant ? Im going to tell the dr to not use the drops and wait but i still want him to check without the drops...

There are several classes of drugs. Some are proven to cause harm to your baby. Some are proven not to cause harm to your baby. Most are not proven one way or the other. Most will never be proven since the patents have run out and no company can make enough money off of the drugs to pay for the testing. Dilation drops are in this category. There is really no evidence that dilation drops are harmful to your baby but many doctors don't want to take any unnecessary chances. If your doctor determines that there is something going on that he needs to dilate your eyes to check, there is really no risk for him to do so.

The drops have no effect. They just don't like to use any medicines of any kind on pregnant women.
