Symbolism of tears?

Can someone help analyse Larmes by Man Ray.

I need to write about what tears symbolise but i cant think of anything to write. this is all I've written so far:
The picture is a close up of a woman’s face, she has dots of water under both of her eyes to symbols tears. Tears commonly suggest sadness, sorrow and sometimes happiness, however the way her eyes are looking up suggest that she is fearful.
can someone help me elaborate on this.

i also need to talk about how man ray used a manikin instead of a real person. what does this suggest ???
