What does my budgies leg band mean?

My young budgie just passed away a couple of days ago. When I was burying him, I read his little leg band. It read: BBFA1473. I bought him at Petco on December 6th. The leg band was a copper color. Any idea what this means? I miss my little angel Scooter so dearly. I'd like to know how old he was.

It's probably the breeder's identification band.

So sorry for your loss. The rings are what breeders use to identify each of their birds. From the picture I would say he looks only about 3 or 4 months old.

Breeders band their birds, you can find out who Petco buys from (many are local breeders).
