I'm having a disagreement with my Mom: help, please?

Are dogs able to get pregnant all year, as humans are, or are they restricted to spring and fall (Easter puppies and Christmas puppies)? Are they seasonal bound, or do their cycles vary, like women's?
更新1:

SeasonalLY bound, I'd meant to type.

I don't see anyone saying whether a bltch can go into estrus only in about Feb/Mar and Oct or if she can have her cycle in ANY month. THAT'S what I want to know.

Firstly, dogs are males, bitches or dams are females. Secondly, bitches can only get pregnant when they go into heat, which, unless they are spayed, can be every six months or so. It is not seasonal, necessarily.

No. They have heat cycles about every six months. You could have researched it on your little own and ended the argument really fast but I guess that would have been too much of a strain for you but it wouldn't only be in the spring and fall for all the females like you foolishly think.

Wrong on both counts.

Generally, female dogs go into season 2 times a year. Only when a female is in season, can she become pregnant.

There is no specific time that a female dog comes into season, they can come into heat (another word for season or estrus) at any time of the year.

Estrus in a female dog, lasts approx 20 days, give or take. The first 10 days, the female bleeds, when the bleeding appears to lighten, is when the bytch can become pregnant, there's only a 2-4 day window when the dog can become pregnant, then the dog starts to go out of season.

A bytch will not allow a male to mount her until she's is ready to be bred.

You could have easily found this info on a simple google search, but you wanted it spoon fed to you.

A b !tches 'heat cycle' is also referred to as a 'season', which is where the confusion may have come from.

It doesnt mean season as in spring or autumn. They come into heat every 6 months or so. They are only fertile during that season. they are not fertile or even interested in mating outside of their cycle.

They are not restricted to spring and fall. It can take up to 2 years for a female dog to develop regular cycles. There is no season of the year which corresponds to a breeding season for domesticated dogs.

Dogs can only get pregnant when they're in standing heat, which approximately every six months, doesn't matter what time of year it is.

Female dogs can only become pregnant during their heat.

They can get pregnant when they come into heat. Boy dogs don't get excited until they do.

Doesn't sound like you know much about dogs & their reproductive systems.

Most mammals have to go into a heat, cycle, estrus before they can get pregnant. Most cycle every 6 months but there is a lot variance among species. An elephant has to go into season, a horse has to go into season(heat). a rabbit has to go into season.

Look up 'dog heat cycles' & learn more about it than what is put on this site. It is better to be in the know than to be ignorant.
