a certain strain of bacteria die in the presence of sunlight. the number of bacteria , b , remaining after x number of hours of exposure to sunlight is determined by the function b(x)=(- square root of 300x ) + 200.select the range of the function.
a. 0 <= b(x) <= 200 , b(x) is the element of W
b. 0 <= x <=200 , x is the element of W
c. 0 <= b(x) <= 200 , b(x) is the element of IR
d. 0<= x <= 200 , x is the element of IR
which is it? please include detail work. thank you

Only selections (a) or (c) have anything to do with the range of the function. We suspect you are using IR to signify real numbers. You have not described the meaning of "W". The value of b(x) is restricted to whole numbers (you cannot have 1/3 of a bacteria dead while the other 2/3 is alive), so if W refers to that, then (a) is the correct choice.
