How to solve this system of equations?

Since they both contain 2y you immediately have
3x + 2 = 5x - 2
x = 2
y = (3*2 + 2)/2 = 4

3x = 2y - 2

5x = 2y + 2

solve for "2y," then substitute...

2y = 3x + 2

5x = 3x + 2 + 2
2x = 4
x = 2

can you find y ? Why not ? check your results !!

[(2, 4) ]

3x - 2y = - 2
-5x + 2y = -2_____ADD

-2x = - 4
x = 2

2y = 8
y = 4

x = 2 , y = 4

3x = 2y-2
5x = 2y+2
2x=4 // subtract eq
x=2
3(2)=2y-2 // substitute
2y=8
y=4
