we caught a turtle 5 yrs ago and it has been our pet ever since. It's getting to big. Can we release it into the wild again?

It might be kinder that you continue to take care of the turtle for the duration.
Nature Isn't & won't be as kind as you've been.

I wouldn't, I don't think it has the necessary skills and adaptions to live in the wild by itself.
