How to make this a wearable accessory?

I got this (I don't know fake or real) amethyst ball not longer than 2cm. How can I make it a wearable accessory like a necklace? Maybe tie some knots, but how?

You can make a bead "cage" to contain the bead with a pair of needle nosed pliers and some flexible wire. Then you can add the cage to a chain for a necklace or bracelet. Click on the link below for a video showing how to make the bead cage. You can also purchase a bead cage online or in some craft stores.

It's awfully small by itself.
