I presume you mean triple (multiply by 3)
I'll use a variable instead of a question mark. So we have:
6x - 4 = 3x + 8
We want to move all terms with the variable to one side of the equation and all constants to the other. So I'll subtract 3x and add 4 to both sides to get:
3x = 12
Now we need to get the coefficient of "x" to 1. Since it's 3 now, dividing it by 3 gets us what we want. So divide both sides by 3 to get:
x = 4
