Discharge G=8 T/hr of oil relative density q=0.9, through a d=0.05m

pipe into a circular storage tank of D=2.3m diameter.

a) velocity V = ? in the 0.050 m pipe.

Eequation of flow rate

G = q*Ap*V = q * π/4 *d^2 * V

V = 4G/πq*d^2

= 4*8*1000 (kg/hr) / π* 900 (kg/m^3) * 0.05^2 (m^2)

= 4527 (m/hr)

b) Rate = ? (m/hour) the level is rising in the tank.

Equation of Capacity:

Q = G / q

= 8000 (kg/hr) / 900 (kg/m^3)

= 80/9 (m^3/hr)

Rate = Q / At (m/hr)

= Q / (πD^2)/4

= 4Q / πD^2

= 4*80/9π * 2.3^2

= 2.14 (m/hr)

c) The time taken to fill the tank to a depth of h=5m

Rate equation:

t = h / Rate (hr)

= 5 / 2.14

= 2.37 hr
