Everyone read!!!!! Need some serious help here!!!!!!?

Ok so this guy I was talking to pretty seriously for about 2 months just decided to tell me the other day that he still needed to get over his ex that had cheated on him. We were supposed to hangout the day it all happened and then he said “we need to talk” and that’s when it all started. He said what made him realize he needed space with me was the one day that I stayed the night at his house. He said I was the first person to since his ex. And he said he was uncomfortable with me staying but he was the one who wanted me to which doesn’t make sense to me. I’m really sad about it because he said he wants space and he said we will see how things go in the future and saying he needs to work on himself right now and stuff like that. And said he wasn't ready for a relationship yet. And he also told me I wasn’t a rebound or anything. So I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do because we talked every single day all day and now it’s just all taken away ): I already miss him a lot ): I even met his family and he met mine ): do you think I should give him his space for now and try in text him in like a month or something??
