Any dog include mixed breeds can be great therapy dogs.

The kind that you can live with the rest of the time... all breeds/mixes have been successful therapy dogs.

Pugs are the most gentle (and ADORABLE) dogs so maybe them?

It isn't the breed you need to look at but rather the individual dog. My dog was a black Lab and would have been the ideal therapy dog and yet there is a Lab down the road from us who is the most aggressive, neurotic dog I have ever met.

I do lots of work with autistic children with my Greyhound who is a TDI certified therapy dog.

They are also the ideal size for interacting with people in wheel chairs, and people bed ridden because of their tall stature. MANY retired racing greyhounds are now finding second careers as Therapy dogs and Service dogs for veterans with PTSD. Their chill and calm demeanor and affinity for people make them ideal as Therapy dogs.

Of course, the Therapy Dog chapter I belong to has everything from mutts to Newfies in it. The disposition of the dog is really much more important than the breed. But I can personally vouch for how ideal this breed is for this type of second career.
